Three-dimensional smoothed particle hydrodynamics modeling of near-shore current flows over rough topographic surface

In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) numerical model based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) approach was developed to simulate near-shore current flows over rough topographic surface in coastal area, where are shallow and demonstrate strong turbulent characteristics. The program is open-source code SPHysics ( http://www.sphysics.org ), two major improvements made treat turbulence boundary effects: A modified sub-particle-scale (SPS) eddy viscosity address transfer of flows, drag force equation included momentum equations account for influence roughness element bed lateral boundaries. computed results flow velocity, shear stress, free characteristics compared with laboratory measurements variety test conditions. It has shown that present SPH can accurately 3D-free realistic topography roughness.
